83% of ad blocker users rate autoplay videos “very” boring

To complement internet distractions, respondents were asked to rate newsletter pop-ups, cookie notifications, survey request pop-ups, and social media share buttons. The six distractions were selected based on feedback from tens of millions of people around the world who use AdBlock software.

When annoying “somewhat” ratings are added to “very” annoying ratings, over 90% of respondents said they found five of the six distractions boring. The only distraction found to be annoying by less than 90% of those surveyed was the share buttons on social media.

“We all encounter too many intrusive and annoying ads that interrupt our browsing experience. Our ad blockers do a great job of getting rid of a lot of them, but ads are just one of the many distractions on Internet “said Matthieu maier, CEO of Adblock Inc. “We wanted to identify what other distractions our users around the world find annoying and how annoying they think they are. So we asked them.

“As the company responsible for AdBlock and Adblock Plus, we are well positioned to further improve the Internet user experience,” said Maier. “Our mission is to create a distraction-free, worry-free Internet experience for everyone.”
