If you have not downloaded your map as an offline map, you will not be able to access routes or directions when your device is not connected to the internet. When you access your map or try to reach your pinned locations, it will tell you Maps can’t access the internet. Please check your internet connection and try again.

Downloading a map that includes both your starting location and your final destination ensures that even if you’re not connected to the internet, you’ll be able to follow the route as planned.

To download an offline map from Google Maps, open the Google Maps mobile app on your Android or iOS device. At the top, far right of the Search here bar, you will find your profile picture; press it.

Yes. You can pin this route if you’ve downloaded an offline map that includes both your starting location and your final destination. You can also search for locations on this offline map in Google Maps even if your device is not connected to the internet and then get driving directions.

Pinned routes are not custom routes. The ones you find offline on your downloaded offline maps are not variable either. These are Google’s “recommended routes”.
