State Long Term Care Fund Exemption Statistics »Publications» Washington Policy Center

Here are the latest figures showing how many Washingtonians have requested an exemption from the WA Cares Fund and its payroll tax of 58 cents per $ 100 of income as of January. Learn more about the WA Cares Fund, the state’s mandatory long-term care program and payroll tax, on the state’s website and in my previous blogs and opinion pieces.

Exemption statistics as of November 17, 2021

  • Total number of exemption requests received: 383,996

  • Applications approved: 230,026

  • Incomplete applications: 2,425

  • Total number of requests processed: 232,451

  • Requests processed as a percentage of the total: 60.5%

It is encouraging to have 60.5% of requests processed. At the start of the month, the number of requests processed stood at 41.1%. On November 5, with less than half of exemption requests processed, it was no surprise that the WA Cares Fund website posted an exemption message that read: “If you have completed your exemption request from WA Cares by December at the latest. 1, ESD will process it before the premiums go into effect in January ”, and“ we cannot guarantee that we will process your request until the end of the year if you submit by December 1st.

Continue to be warned. And if you have private long-term care insurance, apply for exemption as soon as possible.
