The Xbox Design Lab was temporarily suspended last October while Microsoft worked to transition console generations, but custom controller service is back – letting you design your own Series X / S controller.
The relaunch was announced during the Xbox E3 follow-up showcase tonight, and the Xbox Design Lab website is now live. The Personalization program allows you to choose colors for most of the external parts of the controller, including the “body, back case, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, joysticks, ABXY buttons, Display , Menu and Share “. The Xbox Wire blog post states that there are 18 colors to choose from, including the colors of existing Xbox Series X / S controllers like Shock Blue and Pulse Red.
If you want to make it even more personal, you can also have a Gamertag or a personalized message of up to 16 characters engraved on your controller.
As Microsoft explained earlier this year, many of the colors available for its controllers use plastics “containing 30 percent post-consumer recycled material (PCR) by weight,” a move to “reduce the amount of plastic waste. that end up in landfills and making sure we all do our part to take care of the planet.
“We believe this work is essential and will continue to increase the amount of PCR we use in our products.”
Prices for the controllers start at $ 69.99 (£ 50.25), with an additional $ 9.99 (£ 7.17) charged for engravings. Orders can be placed in the United States, Canada and “most European countries” with inspectors arriving within two weeks of placing the order.
