There’s nothing worse than having to wait for your team to hit the field long after everyone else. Monday night football is ideal for neutrals but, for Watford and Sheffield United fans, the weekend would have taken an age.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

These two teams recently relegated from the top flight meet at Vicarage Road on Monday evening after being able to sit back and watch the first weekend of the 2022/23 EFL season unfold before them. But the long wait is finally over and it should be a good matchup between two teams that I think will be in the game as the season heats up.

Watford finished 19th in the top flight last season while the Blades were 5th in the Championship and lost to Nottingham Forest on penalties in the playoff semi-finals. They’re two decent teams who will be absolutely itching to get going. So, without further ado, let’s go with a Bet Builder for Monday’s game.

Monday 8 p.m.: Watford v Sheffield United

While I expect Untied to mix it up the table at the end of the season, I just think Watford will have too much quality for them here. There are plenty of other factors at play as well, including the relief Hornets players have of being able to have a little fun this season rather than expecting routine shots.

I think they’ll fly off the blocks knowing they’re one of the biggest kids in the league rather than just a whipping boy. There’s also the house factor to throw in the pot and, while they were shocking in front of their own fans last season, it’s a different story this time around.

They will be looking to make amends for the last campaign which saw them pick up just eight points in 19 games at Vicarage Road. New manager Rob Edwards has had the novelty of a full pre-season with this team and I think the most likely outcome here is a Watford victory.

The thing is, Watford have some very good attacking talent, although the defense is perhaps a bit lacking. Emmanuel Dennis got double figures in the top flight last season and they managed to hang on to Ismaila Sarr, who was widely expected to leave the club following relegation.

Joao Pedro is still a year older and will have benefited greatly from his experience in the Premier League. He’s back for another shot at the Championship and scored nine goals at this level seasons ago as an 18-year-old. The Blades, for their part, saw Over 2.5 goals in each of their last four games, including those heartbreaking semi-finals against Forest.

It all adds up to the two teams scoring here. United scored in each of their last seven games last season but also conceded five of them. Lines of form are difficult to understand with Watford as they were just trying to get to the range as quickly as possible towards the end of last season.

For the record, they have conceded 11 of their last 12 in the top flight. They managed to capture seven of them, which tells you exactly where their main problem was. These numbers are enough to make me think that we are in line for Both teams score In this one.

When you’re scouring the markets for a goalscorer, the class difference each team possesses is quite striking. United are packed with hard-working but unspectacular players you already know and love like Oli McBurnie and John Fleck, while Watford have strikers who possess a sprinkling of stardust like the aforementioned Dennis, Sarr and Pedro.

The player I like here is Emmanuel Dennis. He bagged 10 in the Premier League last season and those numbers alone tell me he should tear it up this time around if he stays for the whole campaign. If he is still at Watford on Monday, I will take Dennis will score first.

Watford will win
Over 2.5 goals
Both teams score
Emmanuel Dennis will score first
